Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is the practice of placing someone under hypnosis. There are many reasons and benefits that hypnotherapy is utilized by some people including to aide an individual to stop smoking, induce weight loss in individuals, and to release anxiety in an individual.

What’s Hypnotherapy?

Utilizing hypnosis for weight loss is an option that many people are turning to as an alternative therapy to aid in weight loss. The hope when undergoing hypnosis for weight loss is that hypnotherapy works on a person’s subconscious to reshape the way that they unconsciously think about food. The end goal of hypnosis is that you will have greater mind control to get a hold over your appetite and in turn your appetite will be reduced. Undergoing hypnosis may also help an individual to have greater willpower and motivation which will in turn hopefully get the individual to get out and exercise more and for longer periods of time.

Hypnosis has long been known to have the effect on some people that leads to the cessation of smoking. While the smoker is under hypnosis the hope if that they will subconsciously be induced to quit smoking. This therapy is called smoking cessation hypnosis. This hypnosis generally occurs over several stages and it is known to be a very successful therapy. Once hypnosis is induced the person who is leading the hypnotherapy begins by asking the smoker when and why they started to smoke. Then the smoker has it pointed out to him that he can be successful without the smoking habit. Toward the end of the hypnosis it will be placed in the individuals mindset that they are totally against smoking.

When using hypnosis for the reduction of anxiety the process is a little different in that you are not utilizing the therapy as a way to suggest something to someone’s subconscious, but rather you will be placed in a hypnotic trance as a way to allow you to access information that you have buried in your subconscious. While under hypnosis the medical professional will use your relaxed state to see if the root cause of your anxiety can be brought out while you are in the relaxed state. If the reason does surface then this reason is later addressed in therapy sessions.

Hypnotherapy – The Benefits

The benefits of undergoing hypnosis can vary from person to person. It is important to know that not everyone can be placed in a hypnotic trance, but for those that can be there are many benefits that can be found. You do need to know that if you have severe psychotic symptoms such as delusions, that hypnosis should not be used on you and if you choose to use hypnotic therapy for pain management you need to make sure that you do not need a medical treatment to deal with an underlying problem. If you suffer from overeating, smoking habits, or anxieties then consider what hypnotherapy may do for your unique situation. Do keep in mind that hypnotherapy should only be completed by a trained medical professional.
